Glen Orrin Malt Whisky (ALDI)

It is what it is. And what it is is not very good.

A cheap, 5yr old blend from budget supermarket Aldi. When I say budget, I mean it - this retails for £13.29. Barely more than a tenner. Or to put that into perspective - half a cocktail at the Savoy's American Bar or just over a packet of biscuits from Fortnum & Mason. OK, in other words - it's pretty cheap.

On the nose: Grainy. Smells like Werther's Originals. Or old people's candy. Whatever.

The taste: Ahh. It's relatively smooth for a 5yr old whisky, I guess. My initials notes here say hints of raw oak, waxy caramel'ness and pork rinds. I have a feeling after a few of these my notes would need to be revised to include hints of lonliness and regret.

The finish: The finish is unpleasantly, weirdly soapy.

Personally... Might be alright if you can find the right kind of cocktail for it, at this price well... you can't really go wrong. It is what it is. And what it is is not very good.
