This Balvenie Triple Cask is aged in three different barrels:- first-fill ex-bourbon, first-fill ex-sherry, and refill sherry casks.
I bought a sample of this while in the airport preparing to travel to Poland last week - really nice to now see some of these travel retail stores stocking miniatures as it means you can try some of these exclusive whiskies on your way out of the country, and if you like them, buy a bottle on the way back in!
This Balvenie Triple Cask is aged in three different barrels:- first-fill ex-bourbon, first-fill ex-sherry, and refill sherry casks. It's basically a renamed version of the discontinued Balvenie Signature and is, I believe, only available in travel retail shops.
On the nose: Sugared peanuts, coconut slice, burnt brown sugar.
The taste: Yellow Starburst, antiseptic throat lozenges and a bit of faint liquorice....
The finish: Short, more of the oak tannins come through but it's much of the same from the taste, just a bit dulled.
Personally... A good solid whisky that scores mid-eighties for me, but score has to drop somewhat considering this is priced at the £70-80 mark and is just way too expensive for what it is.
