Another day, another wine cask finish. You'd expect this one, from Longrow, to be better than most. And it is, mostly.
Another day, another wine cask finish. You'd expect this one, from Longrow, to be better than most. This sample comes courtesy of Andy, The Amateur Drammer.
On the nose: A hint of smoke, but underneath that layers of strawberries, some sharper gooseberries, grilled pineapple rings.
The taste: More smoke, but develops quickly with taffy, cheap strawberry sweets and some kind of melon. It's quite good but not terribly complex.
The finish: Long and peppery.
Personally... The wine cask finish is fairly muted here - except for the nose which is always the most pleasant part of these sorts of whiskies. Thankfully though the Pinot Noir casks add something to this rather than overpower the spirit. Whether you like what they add or not - that's another story.
